Location and Group Rate Information

The ARGFest Planning Committee has selected the Courtyard by Marriott Portland City Center‎ to host this year’s festivities. The hotel opened in May 2009, and will feature spacious rooms with complimentary internet access (wired and wireless).

In order to help defray the costs of the venue, we have negotiated special rates for rooms, which are (UPDATED ON JUNE 19, 2009) as follows:

  • Single/double occupancy (New Rate!): $135/night $119/night
  • Triple occupancy (New Rate!): $145/night $129/night
  • Quadruple occupancy (New Rate!): $155/night $139/night

Note: There is a $29/day valet parking fee for vehicles at the hotel. Other public garages and street parking in the area are available for various fees.

NOTE: The above reduced room rates are available for all ARGFest-o-Con group rate bookings. If you already booked your room under the group name at the original base group rate of $135 per night, you will automatically receive the reduced rate without having to do anything. If you booked outside of the group at a higher rate than the base of $119 per night, please call our group coordinator listed below to have yourself added to the group so that you may receive the lower rate. If you took advantage of what we’re told was a recent glitch in the online booking system and booked your room at a lower rate than the group base of $119 per night, please call our group coordinator to have your reservation added to our group at the rate you booked, which the hotel will honor.

These rates are in effect between the dates of July 13, 2009 and July 23, 2009. The rate is available until June 26, July 17, 2009, subject to room availability. Reservations must be guaranteed with a credit card or deposit to cover the first room-night.

Room Reservation Procedure (UPDATED ON JUNE 19, 2009)

ALERT: The best way to reserve your room AND to ensure your room is counted against our ARGFest-o-Con block, is to call our Group Coordinator Steven Pack at (503) 575-4037. If you booked your room at a lower rate than the ones listed above by booking outside of the group, the hotel will honor your rate but can only count your reservation toward our group if you call Steven Pack and let him know you are with ARGFest-o-Con.

ARGFest-o-Con attendees are responsible for making their own reservations. To arrange your accommodations at the hotel, use the links below to do an online booking from July 16, 2009 to July 20, 2009. The links are subject to change, so if they do not work, please let us know. As well, if you wish to book rooms at the conference rate for dates other than the 16th through 20th, we recommend booking over the phone by calling 800-606-3717. In order to receive the special rate over the phone, you must indicate that you are with the ARGFest-o-Con 2009 Conference group. Should the individual “not show” or cancel by 6:00 PM one day prior to arrival, the individual’s credit card will be charged, or any deposit will be applied for the first night’s room revenue.

NOTE: Ignore the online booking completely, as we have confirmed it is still completely borked.

Note: We have had several reports that the online booking system is “FUBAR” so if you have trouble, we recommend calling the 800 number and being polite but firm in requesting your ARGFest-o-Con group rate. If you still have difficulty booking your room at the group rate, contact us and we’ll provide you with the email address of our sales representative. NOTE: Don’t bother with the 800 number either. Call Steven Pack at the number listed above to book your room.

Additional Note: Some King rooms are available with an extra sofa bed. Mention this to your reservation clerk or in the “special requests,” “comments,” or “notes” section of the online booking system (if you’re lucky enough to have it work for you! ARG) to Steven Pack when booking your room.

Why Book at the Hotel?

  • Conference room costs at hotels are reduced based on the assumption that room revenue will increase because of attendees. We have blocked 150 room-nights over the ARGFest-o-Con weekend and must book at least 120 of those to avoid additional fees. Note that one room night equals one room for one night, so a three night stay would be three room-nights, as would three separate rooms on the same night.
  • Staying at the hotel keeps you in the middle of the action in the event that impromptu events occur. And here’s a tip from us to you — impromptu events will occur.
  • Being in close proximity to your room late at night is easier than finding and directing a taxi.
  • We will have a hospitality suite available at the hotel for those who wish to socialize and plan off-site events.
